Joe Somers Putnam

Joe Somers Putnam was born to Buddy and Loyce Putnam on September 17, 1955, in Throckmorton, Texas. He passed away on October 11, 2021, in Abilene, Texas. Joe married the love of his life, Jenny, on October 13, 2001, in Abilene, Texas, where they made their home. Joe and Jenny had a deep, abiding love for one another and the Lord, which was always the center of their relationship. They were faithful Christians and members of the Hillcrest Church of Christ. Joe’s family was the sunshine of his life, and he adored his children, grandchildren and extended family. Joe had a heart as big as his laugh and loved people. His unique sense of humor combined quirky observations and one-liners that made all those around him belly-laugh. Every year he looked forward to Throckmorton’s Homecoming event where he enjoyed seeing old friends and sharing stories. Joe worked in the oil field all his life in different capacities, including offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. He enjoyed snow skiing, cooking, and made scrumptious breakfast burritos. He had a special affinity for animals and lovingly took care of his horses, chickens and cats. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joe Ben “Buddy” Putnam, and his mother, Oma Loyce [Riley] Putnam Charles. Survivors include, wife, Jenny, and children, Ben and Clara Putnam of Abilene, Paige Switzer and Dave Putnam, the children of Darla Simon Hammonds of Junction; sisters, Micki Bullock, and husband, John, of Newcastle, and Luretta Putnam of Throckmorton; grandchildren, Storey and Journee Switzer, Addison and Lincoln Putnam, of Junction; many nieces and nephews; and, his beloved dog, Max.
